Art For Recovery
Wednesday, April 22 • 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM • Via Zoom
As poet Nikki Giovanni says, “We are less lonely when we connect. Art is the connection”. This month, let’s connect remotely but, still, intimately through the shared experience of making art. Using a simple sketchbook or creating one with simple materials from home, we will begin your own Visual Journal. Choosing from a list of journaling prompts to inspire you, we will meet up on Zoom to work in our individual journals together. You can draw, paint, write, collage, sew using whatever materials you have on hand to respond to the prompt of your choosing. Through this group, you will give for yourself a tool for creatively reflecting on how you are thinking and feeling during this difficult time and be given the opportunity to share those experiences and creations with others.
Visual Journaling Materials
- Simple Sketchbook
- You can purchase one like the one below or something similar. Ideally it would be “mixed media” paper so you could paint on it and draw. If painting isn’t likely for you, lighter weight paper is fine. Spiral bound is nice so that the book stays open easily while you’re working in it but any binding would be fine.
- Make your own! Here are some links with simple ideas for using things you may have at home. Paper stapled together works too!
- Materials for working in your journal.
- A simple pencil and eraser will do or you can bring as many of the things below that you’d like to our Zoom meet up
- Markers
- Crayons
- Colored Pencils
- Oil pastels
- Watercolor paint
- Acrylic or tempera paints
- Brushes
- Water
- Papertowels
